Password Managers

Email aliases from your password manager

Generate a unique mailservr alias every time you create a new login in Bitwarden or 1Password. No context switching. No monthly fees.

How it works

1

Generate an API key

Go to Settings in your mailservr dashboard and create an API key. Copy it once — you'll paste it into your password manager.

2

Configure your password manager

In Bitwarden or 1Password, select SimpleLogin or Addy.io as the forwarded email service. Set the server URL to your mailservr instance and paste your API key.

3

Aliases are auto-generated

When you create a new login, your password manager calls mailservr to generate a unique alias. The alias is saved with your credentials automatically.

Supported password managers

Works with Bitwarden desktop, web vault, browser extension, and mobile apps. Use either SimpleLogin mode (API key only) or Addy.io mode (API key + domain selection).

Frequently asked questions

Does mailservr work with Bitwarden?

Yes. mailservr is compatible with Bitwarden's forwarded email alias feature. Select SimpleLogin or Addy.io as the service in Bitwarden, set the server URL to your mailservr instance, and paste your API key. Aliases are generated automatically when you create new logins.

Does mailservr work with 1Password?

Yes. 1Password supports SimpleLogin as a masked email provider. Point the server URL to your mailservr instance, enter your API key, and 1Password will generate aliases through mailservr when creating new logins.

Which password managers are supported?

Any password manager that supports the SimpleLogin or Addy.io forwarded email alias API can connect to mailservr. This includes Bitwarden (desktop, web, browser extension, and mobile) and 1Password.

Do I need a separate subscription?

No. Password manager alias generation is included in every mailservr plan. You only need a mailservr account with an active plan and an API key. There are no additional charges for using the integration.

How is this different from SimpleLogin or Addy.io?

mailservr is a self-contained email alias service with a one-time payment model. Unlike SimpleLogin or Addy.io, there are no monthly fees. You get a full inbox with threaded conversations, search, attachments, and an API, not just forwarding.

What happens when I hit my alias limit?

The API returns an error that the password manager will display. You can free up capacity by disabling unused aliases in your mailservr dashboard, or upgrade to a higher plan for more active aliases.
